Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is a Latin American nation located in Hispaniola. Its the second largest Island in The Caribbean`s greater Antilles Archipelago. Hispaniola lies west of Puerto Rico and east of Cuba and Jamaica. Its official language is Spanish. Its capital is Santo Domingo. The country is a tropical, maritime nation. Wet season is from May to November, and periodic hurricanes between June and November. Most rain falls in the northern and eastern regions. The average rainfall is 1346 mm, with extremes of 2500 mm in the northeast and 500 mm in the west. The main annual temperature ranges from 21 °C in the mountainous regions to 25 °C on the plains and the coast. The average temperature in Santo Domingo in January is 25 °C and 30 °C in July.

Dominican Republic cuisine is predominantly made up of a combination of Spanish, Taino and African influences over the last few centuries. Typical cuisine is quite similar to what can be found in other Latin American countries but, many of the names of dishes are different. Breakfast usually consists of eggs and mangú (mashed, boiled plantain). For heartier versions, these are accompanied by deep-fried meat and/or cheese. Similar to Spain, lunch is generally the largest and most important meal of the day. Lunch usually consists of some type of meat (chicken, pork or fish), rice and beans, and a side portion of salad. "La Bandera" (literally, The Flag), the most popular lunch dish, consists of broiled chicken, white rice and red beans.

Typical Dominican cuisine usually accommodates all four food groups, incorporating meat or seafood; rice, potatoes or plantains; and is accompanied by some other type of vegetable or salad. However, meals usually heavily favor meats and starches, less dairy products, and little to no vegetables. Many dishes are made with sofrito, which is a mix of local herbs and spices sautéed to bring out all of the dish's flavors. Throughout the south-central coast, bulgur, or whole wheat, is a main ingredient in quipes or tipili (bulgur salad). Other favorite Dominican dishes include chicharrón, yucca, casave, and pastelitos.

Some treats Dominicans enjoy are arroz con leche (or arroz con dulce), bizcocho dominicano, habichuelas con dulce, flan, frio frio, dulce de leche, and caña or sugar cane.

The beverages Dominicans enjoy include Morir Soñando, rum, beer, Mamajuana, batida (smoothie), ponche, mabí, and coffee

Baseball It self

Baseball is a ball-and-bat sport played by two teams of nine players each. The goal of baseball is to score runs on hits. A player on the batting team can stop at any of the bases and hope to score on a teammate's hit. The teams switch between batting and fielding whenever the fielding team gets three outs. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning, nine innings make up a professional game. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. Baseball on the professional, amateur, and youth levels is popular in North America, Central America, South America, The Caribbeans, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. The modern version of the game developed in North America, beginning in the eighteenth century.

Professional Major League Baseball teams are divided into the National League (NL) and American League (AL). Each league has three divisions: East, West, and Central. Every year, the champion of Major League Baseball is determined by players culminating in the World Series. Four teams make the playoffs from each league: the three regular season division winners, plus one wild card team. The wild card is the team with the best record among the non–division winners in the league. In the National League, the pitcher is required to bat, per the traditional rules. In the American League, there is a tenth player, a designated hitter, who bats for the pitcher. Each major league team has a "farm system" of minor league teams at various levels. These teams allow younger players to develop as they gain on-field experience against opponents with similar levels of skill.

Personally to me baseball is a very easy sport to learn and play. I think baseball can be learned in less then 2 hours, because all you are doing is hitting the ball with a bat, and running around bases. I love baseball. My whole entire family loves it too. Every summer I go to the Bronx, to Pelham Bay Park, and play baseball, my dad has a softball league there for all the men so the kids grab every one and make our own baseball game, and we are very competitive. Our parents would always watch us play and cheer for us. Not only is this a good activity for kids to do, but you are also spending time with your family, which is what everyone should do. Baseball is my favorite sports and no one can change that, no matter how boring they say it is.

My Blog...still baseball

Today I will be continuing my blog about baseball. Baseball is like a passion to me. I can never get tired of doing it. I am Going to talk about a legendary baseball player. He was a very good baseball player until he died of cancer. His name George Herman Ruth, Jr. In other words known as "Babe Ruth". He was born of February 6 1895, and died August 16 1948. Named the greatest baseball player in history in various surveys and rankings, his home run hitting prowess and charismatic personality made him a larger than life figure in the "Roaring Twenties". He was the first player to hit 60 home runs in one season (1927), a record which stood for 34 years until broken by Roger Maris in 1961. Ruth's lifetime total of 714 home runs at his retirement in 1935 was a record for 39 years, until broken by Hank Aaron in 1974. In 1936, Ruth became one of the first five players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ruth started to play in the outfield and at First Base so he could help the team on a day-to-day basis as a hitter. In 1919, appearing in 111 games as an outfielder, he hit 29 Home runs to Ned Williamson's record for a single season. In 1920 Red Sox owner Harry Frazee sold Ruth to the New York Yankees. In his next 15 seasons in New York, Ruth led the league or placed in the top ten in batting average, slugging percentage, runs, , total bases, home runs,RBI`s and walks several times.

My blog..about life and baseball

I have been talking about the same things again. I have talked about me my family. I have talked bout what I like to play and what specific sports I like to play. I also talked about where I am from and where I came from how I lived over there where I came from. I talked about how it is to live over there.

Living in The Dominican Republic is a great thing. The heat is always shining on you. You will always be in the water. You will be going to the beach everyday cause it`s hot. It would at about 99 degrees there and some people are used to it. Some people are not used to the warm weather. Me personally I do not mind it, but since I was born in the summer then I am used top the hot weather, but also since I live in New York I am used to the cold weather too. So I like both and I feel comfortable with both.

Robinson Cano

I am going to keep my blog topic about baseball. I will be talking about my other favorite player. He might not be a big player that everyone may like but I do like him. His name is Robinson Cano. Robinson Cano was born on October 22 1982 in San Pedro De Macoris,Dominican Republic. He is the second basemen for The New York Yankees. He was named after Major league player Jackie Robinson. Cano was called up to the major leagues on May 3,2005, while hitting .333 in 108 at bats in AAA.Canó finished the year, however, with the 3rd-worst walk percentage in the league, 3.0%. In 2006 Canó led the AL All-Star balloting at second base, but could not play after being placed on the disabled list for a strained hamstring.

After his return from injury Cano came back, Cano lead the league in batting average, doubles, and runs batted in. Canó finished 2006 with the third best batting average in the AL (.342, just 2 points behind teammate shortstop Derek Jeter and five points behind Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer. Canó finished 22nd in American League MVP voting with 3 votes.

My Blog Continued.......Melky Cabrera

Well today I will be talking about lets see...well i will be continuing my blog about baseball. Well as you already know my favorite team is the Yankees. Well many people like their favorite player to be Derek Jeter, and Alex Rodriguez, but my favorite player is Melky Cabrera. A lot of people say that he is whack, but having a favorite player is not only about being whack or being good its also about their life and how they came up to be an amazing person.

Melky Cabrera was born on August 11,1984 in Santo Domingo,Oeste Dominican Republic.
At age 17, Melky was signed by the New York Yankees. At age 18, he made his pro debut in the Yankees Rookie League affiliate at the Dominican Summer League. He made his first minor league appearance with the low class A ball in the NY-Penn League with the Staten Island Yankees, batting .283 with 31 RBI in 67 games. In 2004, he moved up to the higher A ball Battle Creek Yankees, hitting .333 with 16 RBI in 42 games before being promoted to the high class A Tampa Yankees, where he hit .288 with 51 RBI in 85 games to finish the season. On July 7, Melky made his major league debut in center field at Yankee Stadium against the Cleveland Indians. His first at bat against Kevin Millwood resulted in a strike-out, however, he collected his first major league hit, a single to left field, in his third at bat to a standing ovation.

In 2007 Cabrera struggled starting off the season. He was the fourth outfielder and did not get regular at-bats. He batted .200 in April and .254 in May, getting limited playing time. Cabrera took Damon's spot in center field. Since then, Cabrera has hit .320 with 3 of his 5 home runs and 21 of his 36 RBIs. He also had a career high 13-game hitting streak going from July 1-17. In 2007 Cabrera was 4th in the American League in sacrifice flies (9), 5th in sacrifice hits (10), and 6th in triples (8. That is exactly why is like him as my favorite player, cause even though he started off bad, he cam up and he pushed himself, and never gave up, and now he is doing great. Melky Cabrera is one of the players that doesn't care if he does bad and that doesn't care if he fails, but he never gives up, which is why I like him.
